The collar is edged with gold lace of regimental pattern and the cuffs decorated with an Austrian knot of flat cord gold lace. The shoulders retain “Hussar” pattern gilt bullion cords with rank star indicating Second Lieutenant. Complete with gilt King’s Crown regimental buttons (one absent). Silk lining shot. 349     1st DUMBARTONSHIRE VOLUNTEER RIFLE CORPS SCARLET DOUBLET A good scarce pre 1908 OR’s blanket lined example of scarlet cloth with yellow facings to the collar and cuffs and yellow shoulder straps. The collar, ornamented with white cord along the base, retains facing fair of white metal collar badges viz. within a wreath, elephant with howdah and “Fortitudo et fidelitas” scroll. The front, cuffs and skirts edged with quarter inch white cloth. Each gauntlet cuff bears three white cord loops terminating with a button; this design is repeated on the Inverness skirts. Complete with all white metal regimental buttons. Generally near VGC. (£60 - £100) Became 9th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in 1908.
