Pte James Edward Siggins was born in Berkshire England. He volunteered for service with the 38th CEF on the 26th February 1915 at Ottawa. He served on the Western Front and was demobbed in June 1919. In September 1919 he enlisted as a Lance Corporal Special Guard Canadian Military Police Corps. It is confirmed he was only issued the silver war medal and victory medal.

Private Joseph Robinson of the Royal Fusiliers enlisted on the 2nd September 1915 giving his age as 19. Posted to France, it was then discovered his true age was only 16. He was posted back to the UK on the 1st February 1916 and discharged the following day “Discharged having made a miss-statement as to age on enlistment”

The reverse of the frame retains an original Shanghai Municipal Police Property label stating that the shells were found on the roof of the Charted Bank of India and is dated November 1st 1937. written by Lt J.C. Ramsden, E Troop Royal Horse Artillery to his father. Accompanied by a number of notes written later by the then Capt Ramsden. (£50 - £100)
The letter dated 5th January 1858 gives details of an engagement with a rebel force on the banks of the Ganges on the 3rd January 1858. He refers to the rebel units as the Budmashers robbers & ruffians retainers of influential landowners. British units present were the 3rd Rifle Brigade, and 79 Highlanders

black fur body fitted with 3 lines of yellow mohair cord and a yellow cord oval button under the plume hole., Red scarlet bag with yellow edging and central lines terminating with a yellow cord button. Black sweatband topped with oilskin band. Some fur loss to the crown edging and other bald areas. (£60 - £90)
367     Inniskilling Dragoons 1847 (Albert) Pattern Helmet
silvered skull decorated with gilt leaf design. Helmet plate comprises a wreath, half of laurel, half of oak, within the wreath an ornate shield surmounted by a Victorian crown. On the shield a multi pointed hobnail star mounted with a strap inscribed “INNISKILLING DRAGOONS” with VR cypher to the centre all in gilt. Replaced plain side bosses support a velvet backed gilt chin chain. The plume holder of leaf design supports a white horsehair plume. No interior lining. Some minor dents to skull. Good display item requiring some work to finish off (£250 - £350)

brass skull decorated with brass laurel leaves. To the front the helmet plate with white metal backing star with brass strap with Latin motto and a silvered 4 to the centre. Brass spike supports a white horsehair plume with rose boss. To the sides rose head bosses support a leather backed chinchain. Leather lining to helmet interior. Minor service wear. Plume holder and cruciform base are loose. (£250 - £350)
369     Royal Horse Guards Troopers Helmet
white metal skull with brass oak leaf mounts. The skull surmounted by a brass eight pointed plate from which emerges a white metal plume holder. To the front a helmet plate comprising a wreath half of laurel, half of oak surrounding the collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Kings Crown. Mounted to the centre is the star of the Order of the Garter. Chin chain and mounts absent, liner absent. Top spike loose, some dents to skull. Now contained in a Home Service tin transit box. Ideal restoration project. (£100 - £150)

The nurse was serving with 4 Canadian Field Ambulance BEF in 1919 and describes this flag had flown above the citadel since the Boche had evacuated and she climbed the pole to liberate it. She also describes “It is not a typical Boche flag but is blue and white one very like our Signals”.
